Mid-week to weekend TFR (s) coming to an airport near you!
May 4 – 7 President Trump will attend Bedminster NJ Trump National Golf Course. It is more than likely, but not set in stone, that he will make the occasion. This is forecasted to happen many times throughout the summer, so here is what you need to know:
The TFR has two dimensions; a 10nm radius no-fly ring and a 30nm radius controlled ring, both originating from the golf course. Somerset airport will be shut down completely, Central Jersey will have a special corridor for exit, for Solberg and Princeton you will be able to fly through the outer ring with a few basic procedures.
If you want to fly during that period, review TFRs on http://tfr.faa.gov to see what is active.
Flying in or out of Princeton will not be complicated, file an active IFR or VFR flight plan and call New York Tracon at (800)-645-3206 or ATC on 132.8 to receive clearance. The procedure is the same for flying through the TFR. You will be asked to squawk a discrete code and remain in contact with ATC while you fly in or out on your flight plan.
Remember, when flying around TFR’s make sure to observe a 3-5nm buffer because an alleged violation is based on the FAA radar overlay of the TFR, not your GPS track.

AVIATION 101:
An introduction to airplanes for non-pilot spouses, partners, or significant others. May’s aviation safety seminar is being held for all the non-flying partners of the pilots (including student pilots) here at Princeton. This one-night seminar will be an informal introduction to aviation, teaching some of the basic concepts of aircraft control, communication, and navigation. Emphasis will be on answering common questions the unofficial pilot would want to know, or is too shy to ask. No question will be considered too basic! Pilots are welcome to attend, but in a completely supportive role, and are requested to be seen and not heard!
This is a FREE seminar, but we ask you to indicate your intention to attend via e-mail, phone, or in person to sign up. This informal seminar can be used as the first class of an optional pinch hitter type course that you can take that gets you flying the airplane by yourself. (The “Pinchhitter Course is usually 4 hours of ground and 4 hours of air instruction in the airplane your significant other flies. It enables you to enjoy flying more comfortably and if necessary, be able to be talked down in case of emergency. It has proven very helpful.)

Warmth – longer days – flying. It all worked for the lucky PAFT members that made the annual long cross-country to Lakeland, Florida for this year’s Sun ‘n Fun.
Those PAFT members that didn’t make the trip can catch up at the next club dinner meeting on May 10th, 6 – 7:00 “Shmoozing Hour”, 7:00 meeting at Ya Ya Noodle in Skillman. As Spring gives way to Summer, most pilots and aviation enthusiasts plan to attend air shows. An airshow is an opportunity to see historic airplane, superb aerobatic displays, and a ride in unique airplanes such as a B-29.
There are several shows that will take place within a drive of an hour or two, or a flight within an hour of Princeton. I have a few suggestions for you to consider this summer. I will focus on the local shows. However, if you can fit it in, plan on attending the EAA AirVenture, held at Oshkosh, WI July 24 – 30. Lots of airplanes, seminars, vendors and fun.
