Ass. Chief Pilot – Peter Rafle Part 2 Early Women Pilots
Therese Peltier
In 1908, she was the first woman to fly as a passenger in a heavier than air aircraft.
She flew only 656 feet with Leon Delagrance in Milan, Italy. Later she flew solo in a Voisin biplane several times. On a flight in Turin, she flew for two minutes, never climbing higher than 7 feet!

Blanch Stuart Scott
In 1910, Scott was the first woman to drive an automobile coast to coast. While passing through Dayton, Ohio, she saw a Wright airplane in flight. Once she reached California, she had her first ride in an airplane. Jerome Fanciulli, who worked for Glenn Curtiss noticed her and asked her she wanted to learn to fly. Glenn Curtiss gave her lessons although he was not enthusiastic about it. At one point Curtiss placed a wooden block behind the throttle to prevent her from getting enough speed to take off.
But, “something happened” for it dropped out and on September 2 she made it to 40 feet and got back on the ground successfully. She went on to become a member of Curtiss’s team in October 1910 in Chicago. She continued to fly until 1916 when she left flying because of her disappointment of the public’s interest in crashes and the lack of opportunities for women. Scott had a career in radio and film writing was a consultant to the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB in the 1950’s. The U.S. Post Office issued a 28 cent stamp in her honor on Dec 30, 1980.

 WHY WAIT – Get free traffic & weather.
The FAA has mandated that all airplanes will be required to have ADS-B by 2020. This equipment will provide radar centers more information for better traffic flow, plus many other benefits.

Kris Hendrickson began flying since he was 10 years old. He has earned all of his certificates & ratings up to and including Multi-engine Instructor. Chris worked as a flight coordinator/lineman when he became very familiar fueling planes, taking out trash, filling vending machines and washing planes. As soon as he earned his instructor’s rating he was put to work teaching students to fly.
Kris had a plan which he executed very well. He is now at a point in his flying career that he has offers to fly commercially and is going to leave 39N in the middle of this month to take some time in weighing his options. We wish him well, in whatever he chooses. Thanks for your contribution to 39N. |

 April has been a great month. Platinum Helicopters LLC is now a Part 135 Charter operator in the Agusta 109 and Robinson R44. We have also added another Robinson R22 to our fleet. Platinum has been hard at work and so have our students.
